Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “cuff bust” thing all over TikTok and Instagram, and I finally decided to give it a try. I mean, it looked kinda cool, and honestly, I was bored.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed a shirt. I grabbed an old, oversized button-down that I didn’t really care about – you know, just in case I totally messed it up. Then, I watched like five different tutorials, because everyone seems to have their own way of doing it. Some people use scissors, some use a seam ripper… it was a little overwhelming.

The Process (aka My Struggle)
I decided to go with the seam ripper, seemed less… destructive. I carefully started picking apart the seams on the cuffs. Let me tell you, this took way longer than I expected. My hands started to cramp, and I almost gave up like three times.
- Step 1: Rip the seams. (Patience is key, apparently.)
- Step 2: Try not to rip the actual fabric. (I failed a little here, oops.)
- Step 3: Fold and iron?(I skipped the Iron part)
Once I finally got the cuffs off, I had these frayed, kinda messy edges. Some of the videos showed people neatly folding and ironing them, but I was already over it. I decided to embrace the rough look. It’s “deconstructed,” right? That’s a fashion term, I think.
The Result
So after the hard working, I tried on the shirt. Honestly? It looked… okay. I mean, it’s definitely different. It’s got this edgy, undone vibe that I guess I’m kinda into. Would I wear it out? Maybe. With the right outfit, it could work.
My overall verdict? It was a fun little project, even if it was a bit of a pain. If you’re looking for a way to spice up an old shirt, and you’ve got some time to kill, it might be worth a shot. Just be prepared to get a little frustrated, and maybe have a backup shirt ready, just in case.
