Connect PS5 controller to Steam for Elden Ring. Here is how

Alright, so I wanted to play Elden Ring on my PC, but I’m super used to my PS5 controller. Figured it couldn’t be that hard to get them working together, right? Well, it took a bit of fiddling, but I got it sorted, and I’m here to share how I did it.

Get Steam to Recognize Your PS5 Controller

First things first, I had to make sure Steam actually knew what a PS5 controller was. I plugged in my DualSense and found out it’s pretty simple:

I opened up Steam and went straight to the settings.
Clicked on “Controller” and then “General Controller Settings.”
There’s a bunch of options there, but the one I needed was “PlayStation Configuration Support.” I ticked that box.

Add Elden Ring to Steam (If Needed)

Now, if you bought Elden Ring outside of Steam, you gotta add it as a non-Steam game. Here’s what I did:

In Steam, I clicked on “Games” at the top.
Chose “Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library…”
Found Elden Ring in the list (or browsed for it if it wasn’t there) and added it.

Big Picture Mode Is Your Friend

For some reason, getting this to work smoothly required using Steam’s Big Picture Mode. It’s like a console-style interface for Steam. Here’s how I got into it:

In the top right of the Steam window, there’s a little icon that looks like a box with arrows. I clicked that.

Final Tweaks in Big Picture Mode

Almost there! Just a couple more settings to adjust within Big Picture Mode:

I went to the “Settings” in Big Picture Mode.
Then “Controller Settings.”
Made sure “PlayStation Configuration Support” was still ticked. It should be, but always good to double-check.

And that’s it! I launched Elden Ring through Big Picture Mode, and my PS5 controller worked like a charm. No extra software, no drivers, just Steam doing its thing. Now I can enjoy those sweet, sweet deaths in the Lands Between with the comfort of my DualSense. It’s worth noting that I closed some other third-party controller software I had to prevent any conflicts. I have played a long time, and it really worked! Hope this helps someone else out there!
