Alright, alright, let’s talk about this Coco Gauff girl, the one whacking tennis balls. Heard a bunch of folks jabbering about her, so I figured I’d piece together what I could. Don’t expect no fancy words from me, I just tell it like it is.
Coco Gauff’s Wins and Scores, that’s what they’re calling it, I guess. Sounds like she’s been busy, that youngun’. Won some big thing, they say, the WTA Finals. And wouldn’t ya know, they gave her a big ol’ check, like four million and eight hundred thousand dollars! Can you believe that? That’s a whole lotta money, more than this old lady has seen in her lifetime. Said it pushed her over twenty million dollars in her whole career. Heck, I ain’t never seen that much money, not even in my dreams.
Now, this girl, Coco, she’s only twenty years old. Just a baby! But she’s playing with them big girls and beating ‘em too. They said she’s the youngest to win that WTA Finals since some other girl, Maria somethin’-or-other, back in 2004. That’s a long time ago, even for me!
They keep talking about the “U.S. Open.” Seems like Coco did real good there too. Won the whole darn thing! Beat some girl named Sabalenka, after losing the first set. But then Coco, she got her act together and won the next two. Six-two, six-three, six-two, somethin’ like that. Heard she was serving all wonky at first, but then she straightened herself out.
- US Open Win: Beat Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. That’s what they said on the TV.
- WTA Finals: Won the whole shebang and got a big ol’ check. Didn’t see the score myself, but they said it was a big deal.
- Dubai Somethin’-or-other: They said you can find her scores online, on some ESPN website. I wouldn’t know how to do that, though. Too much fiddlin’ around with buttons and such.
Now, she didn’t win everything, mind you. Lost to some girl named Navarro at the U.S. Open one time. They said it was a “moment to bookmark,” whatever that means. Guess it means it was important, maybe a learning moment for the youngun’. Even the best lose sometimes, that’s just life.
This Coco, she’s from Florida, Delray Beach they say. Probably nice and warm down there. Not like here, where the winters bite your nose off. She started off strong at the U.S. Open, winning her first match six-two. They said she was defendin’ her title, which means she won it before, I reckon.
Folks was disappointed when she lost at somethin’ called Wimbledon and the Olympics. Don’t know much about that, but it sounds fancy. But she bounced back, that Coco did. That’s the spirit! You get knocked down, you get back up and keep swingin’ that racket, or whatever it is they do.
So, that’s the gist of it, what I heard about this Coco Gauff and her scores. She wins some, she loses some, but she’s makin’ a name for herself, that’s for sure. And she’s makin’ a whole lotta money too! Good for her, I say. Hope she saves some of that cash for a rainy day.
