Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “bulle fruit” things all over my social media, and they looked kinda weird but also kinda cool. I figured, why not give it a shot? I mean, how hard could it be, right? Famous last words, maybe.
The Hunt Begins
First things first, I needed to find these things. I hit up a couple of grocery stores, the usual places. No luck. Then I remembered there’s that big Asian market a little bit further out. Bingo! They had a whole bunch of them, all different colors. I grabbed a few that looked kinda ripe-ish, I guess? I really had no idea what I was looking for.

The Prep Work
Back home, I started by just staring at them. Seriously, they’re spiky little balls. I washed them off, obviously, because who knows where they’ve been. Then came the tricky part – how to open them. I tried using a knife, but that felt kinda dangerous. So, I googled it (thank goodness for the internet) and saw some people just kinda smashing them on the counter. Okay, I could do that.
The Smash and Grab
I took a deep breath, placed one of the fruits on the counter, and whacked it. It didn’t exactly burst open gloriously like in the videos. It kinda…cracked. I whacked it again, a little harder this time. More cracks. Finally, after a few more attempts, I managed to pry the thing open.
Inside, there were these little…pods? They looked like translucent grapes, almost. I pulled one out, and it was surprisingly firm. Okay, moment of truth.
Taste test time
- I took my first fruit, and I got this white one.
- I took a bite, and…wow. It was…interesting. Kinda sweet, kinda tart, and definitely a little bit floral. It wasn’t bad, not at all. It was just…different.
- I finished that one, and I wanna try other colors.
- So I grabbed another one, smashed it open, and tried the pinkish one. It was similar, but maybe a little bit sweeter? I don’t know, my taste buds were still adjusting.
The Verdict
So, would I do it again? Yeah, probably! It was a fun little experiment, and the fruit itself was pretty tasty. It’s definitely something I’d recommend trying, just for the experience. Just be prepared for a bit of a wrestling match to get them open. And maybe wear gloves, those spikes are no joke.
I took some pictures of the opened fruits, so colorful and juicy. Now I can post them and share them to my friends. What a great day!
