Okay, so I wanted to mess around with the Arcane Tower in Baldur’s Gate 3. Specifically, I was curious about this Bernard guy and all the dialogue options. I’d heard you could get some decent loot, so I figured, why not?
First, I made my way to the tower. It’s in the Underdark, if you haven’t been. Kinda creepy place, but, you know, gotta explore! Once I got inside, I started poking around. Found some interesting books and scrolls, the usual stuff. Eventually, I climbed up to the top and met Bernard. He’s this construct, kinda looks like a fancy animated suit of armor.

Now, the thing about Bernard is, he only responds to lines from plays and poems you can find scattered around the tower. I think there were, like, five or six different options? I made sure I’d read all the books and notes I could find beforehand, just to be safe. Some people just fight him,I want my loot.
Let’s get start
So, the conversation started, and I had to choose the right responses. Here’s what I picked, and what happened:
-
I started with: “Or art thou but a dagger of the mind, a false creation…”. I figured I’d go with the most dramatic option first, and it seems work well!
-
Bernard gave his response, and then I hit him with: “How can I trust? How will I ever know? / How can I show myself, my darkest me?”.This one felt right, like, getting to the heart of things, you know?
-
After that, I chose:“There is a light in every living thing. / It’s crawling t’wards the surface to survive.” I was on a roll! Bernard seemed pretty chill at this point.
-
Then I went: “The silence stretches on – I’m all alone. / Please, can I hold your hands, for just a while?” I figured going for a friendly, connection. And * is what I want!
-
He gave me a ring! I was like, “Sweet!” The ring lets you use the tower’s defenses, which is pretty cool. Turns out, being polite to the robot pays off.
I didn’t try the other options yet. Maybe next time I’ll go for a different vibe and see if I can get him to, I don’t know, dance or something. But for now, I’m happy with my loot and the fact that I didn’t have to smash a perfectly good automaton to get it.
