Okay, so, I finally decided to tackle the barn situation in my Stardew Valley farm. I’d been putting it off, mostly because I was focusing on crops, but my chickens were getting cramped in their little coop, and I really wanted to get some cows. So, here’s how the whole barn-building adventure went down.
Getting Started
First, I checked my resources. You need a good chunk of wood and stone to build a barn, plus some cash. I already had a decent stockpile of wood from clearing out my farm, but I was a little short on stone. Time for a mining trip!

Gathering Resources
I spent a couple of days in the mines, just smashing rocks and grabbing any stone I could find. It was a bit of a grind, honestly, but I also managed to snag some copper ore, which is always useful.
- Day 1: Mines, mostly levels 20-30.
- Day 2: More mines, plus I cleared some of the rocks on my farm for extra stone.
Talking to Robin
Once I felt like I had enough materials, I headed over to Robin’s shop. She’s the carpenter, and she’s the one who builds all the farm buildings. I talked to her, selected the barn option, and she told me the total cost. I made sure I had enough gold – that’s important!
Choosing a Spot
Robin then followed me back to my farm so I could show her where I wanted the barn. This took a little bit of thought. I wanted it to be close enough to my house for convenience, but also have enough space around it for grazing. I ended up picking a spot just south of my farmhouse, near the pond. It seemed like a good compromise.
The Waiting Game
After I picked the spot, Robin got to work. It takes a few days for her to finish building, so I just went about my usual farming routine – watering crops, tending to my chickens, and fishing. The waiting is always the hardest part!
Barn is Ready!
Finally, after about three days, the barn was done! It looked great – a nice, big, red barn. Now I could finally get some cows! I went back to Robin’s and bought a couple of cows from her, The animals are so happy.
It’s really satisfying to see the barn on my farm. The animals seem happy, and it’s a big step up from just having the coop. I can’t wait to upgrade the barn to Deluxe Barn to get more different type of animals!
