So, I got this wild idea to build a “Run ‘Em Down” league. I started off by brainstorming what this thing should even look like. I mean, what are the rules? Who’s playing? Where do we even play?
First, I grabbed a notebook and started jotting down all my crazy thoughts. I figured we needed some basic rules to keep things, you know, somewhat organized. I wrote down stuff like how many players on each team, how long the games should be, and what kind of scoring system we’d use. After filling up a few pages with notes, I decided to start reaching out to some friends.
I made a bunch of calls, sent out texts. I tried to rally the gang to see who’d be interested in joining this thing. Some were in right away, others needed a little convincing. I explained my vision for the league, painted them a picture of the fun we’d have. Eventually, I managed to get enough people on board to form a few teams.
Finding a Place
- Checked out local parks: I visited a few different parks in the area, scoping them out for potential playing fields.
- Talked to the parks department: I called up the local parks and recreation department to inquire about permits and field availability.
- Secured a field: After a bit of back and forth, I managed to secure a field for our games. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a start.
Next, I worked on creating a schedule. I tried to balance everyone’s availability, which was a bit of a headache, to be honest. But hey, I got it done! I drafted up the schedule, shared it with the teams, and made a few tweaks based on their feedback.
Finally, game day arrived! We gathered at the field, set up the goals, and got the games going. It was a blast! We ran, we scored, we laughed. Sure, there were a few hiccups along the way, but overall, it was a success. We even decided to make it a regular thing. Now we play every weekend, and it’s become something we all look forward to. I guess you could say I actually pulled it off!
