Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into Baldur’s Gate 3, and like many others, I’m always on the hunt for that “perfect” build. I’ve seen a lot of talk online about the “Bestial Heart” for the Wildheart Barbarian, and figured I’d give it a shot and document how it went.
First off, I created a new character – a sturdy Half-Orc, because, well, they’re awesome. I went straight for the Barbarian class, and at level 3, chose the Wildheart subclass. That’s where the fun begins.

The “Bestial Heart” Choice
The big decision here is which Bestial Heart to pick. There are a few good options, like Bear, Eagle, Elk, and Tiger. But for this particular build, I wanted to go all-in on the “Bestial Heart” everyone’s raving about – the Wolf Heart.
- Wolf Heart: This gives your allies advantage on melee attack rolls against enemies within 2 meters of you. It sounds simple, but in practice, it’s a game-changer.
So, I selected Wolf Heart. At this point, my Barbarian was pretty basic – rage, hit things, repeat. But the Wolf Heart added a new layer of strategy.
Leveling Up and Gameplay
As I leveled up, I was careful to focus on the synergy with Wolf Heart.
- I Focused my strength.
- I Grabbed Great Weapon Master as soon as it was available. The -5 to hit is offset by advantage, and that +10 damage is HUGE, especially when raging.
In combat, it was all about positioning. I’d charge into the thick of things, making sure to get as many enemies as possible within that 2-meter radius. My party members, especially the Rogue and Paladin, absolutely loved it. They were critting left and right, and fights that used to be tough were suddenly much easier.
I really enjoyed it.
The Verdict
Is the Wolf Heart “best” Bestial Heart? Honestly, it depends on your party and playstyle. But for me, in a melee-heavy group, it’s absolutely fantastic. I felt like a true pack leader, empowering my allies and wreaking havoc on the battlefield.

If you’re thinking about trying a Wildheart Barbarian, I highly recommend giving the Wolf Heart a shot. It’s a blast to play, and it can really turn the tide of battle.
Just my two cents, from hours of smashing things in BG3!
