Okay, so, today I decided to tackle the “Stone Lord” in Baldur’s Gate 3. Let me tell you, it was a journey. I’d heard things, whispers on forums, about how tough this optional boss could be. Naturally, I was intrigued.
Preparation is Key (Or So I Thought)
First things first, I spent some time prepping. I’m playing a Paladin, Oath of Vengeance, because I like hitting things hard. My party? Shadowheart, because, well, heals are good. Astarion, for sneaky stabby fun. And Gale, because fireballs make me happy.

I made sure everyone was topped up on potions – health potions, speed potions, the works. Stocked up on some scrolls too, just in case. I even went back to camp and grabbed some of those fancy elixirs I’d been hoarding. I was feeling ready.
The Fight Itself…Oof
Found the Stone Lord, all big and rocky, chilling in his little area. I buffed everyone up – Haste on my Paladin and Astarion, Bless on everyone, the usual drill. I thought I was being clever, starting the fight from stealth with Astarion. He got a good sneak attack in, which was nice.
Then, all hell broke loose.
- Those Stone Guardians! They just kept coming! And they hit like trucks. My poor Paladin was getting swarmed.
- Stomps and Throws. The Stone Lord loves to stomp. And throw things. Big things. Like rocks. At my face.
- Gale…went down. Fast. Like, embarrassingly fast. One stomp and poof, he was making death saves.
I burned through so many potions. Shadowheart was working overtime, using every healing spell she had. Astarion was doing okay, darting in and out, but even he was taking some serious hits.
I actually had to reload a couple of times. Seriously. The first time, it was a total party wipe. The second time, I managed to get the Stone Lord down to about half health, but then those Guardians just overwhelmed me.
Victory (Finally!)
Third time’s the charm, right? This time, I changed my strategy a bit.

- Focus Fire. Instead of spreading out the damage, I focused everything on the Stone Lord. Guardians be damned (mostly).
- Kiting. I used my Paladin’s movement speed (thanks, Haste!) to keep him away from the worst of the stomps. Lots of running around.
- Scrolls are Your Friend. Remember those scrolls I mentioned? Yeah, they came in handy. Fireball scrolls, especially.
It was still a close call. Astarion and Gale both went down at one point, but Shadowheart managed to get them back up. My Paladin, with a sliver of health left, landed the final blow. I actually cheered out loud, I’m not ashamed to admit it.
Final Thoughts
The Stone Lord is tough. Don’t underestimate him. Make sure you’re prepared, have a solid strategy, and don’t be afraid to reload if things go south. Also, potions. Lots and lots of potions. I’m gonna go take a nap now.
