Okay, so I was messing around with this whole Sean Strickland fight thing, the “boring fight” as they call it. It’s been a while, and I finally got some time to sit down and check it out.
I started by watching some of his fights. I mean, I watched some highlights, you know? Strickland, he’s a fighter, no doubt. But man, some of his fights, they’re just… not exciting. He’s kinda like, poke, poke, and not much happens. I get it, he’s probably trying to play it safe, but where are the big hits, the big action? I was kinda dozing off, to be honest.
Then, I dug up some interviews and articles. It is said “someone’s head was supposed to come off, Strickland did great. This is something for Jared to fix.” That’s kinda my point! Where’s the action? It felt like he was just going through the motions.
I stumbled upon an interview with ESPN, Brett Okamoto, I think. And he was talking about this fight. He had some good points, I guess. And then there’s this other fighter, the South African guy, who said “Nothing’s changed, he looked boring like every other fight.” Man, harsh, but also kinda true.
So, I started experimenting. I went to the gym, tried to mimic his style a bit. Just for fun, you know? I was just throwing jabs, not really committing. Felt kinda weird, not my style at all. I like to go all in, you know? Throw some power punches, maybe a few kicks.
After that, I did some shadow boxing, trying to copy his stance, his movements. It felt so… restricted. Like I was holding back all the time. I tried to do it with sparring, but it just didn’t feel right. The guys there know my style, the real style, and are always asking me how to change, and I just told them that I just copied the moves.
Conclusion
My takeaway? Strickland’s style, it’s just not for me. I get why some people might find it effective, but it’s just not entertaining. Maybe it’s a good strategy, but it’s not fun to watch, or to do. Maybe just keep him in the boring list. Anyway, that’s my little experiment with the “boring fight” style. Back to my usual routine now!
- Watched Strickland’s fights – mostly boring.
- Read some interviews – mixed opinions.
- Tried his style in the gym – didn’t like it.
- Shadow boxed his style – felt weird.
- Tried to do some sparring with his style – not work at all.
Back to my usual explosive style. Way more fun.
