Okay, so I wanted to figure out how to get Astarion to pick locks effectively in Baldur’s Gate 3. I’m not the best at this stuff, so I did a little digging and this is what I found worked.
Getting Started
First things first, I made sure Astarion was the one I was controlling. Seems obvious, but you know, sometimes I get caught up in the game and forget the basics.

Then I found a locked chest or door. There are plenty scattered around, so it wasn’t hard.
The Actual Lockpicking
When I interacted with the lock, it brought up this lockpicking interface, a circle thing with a moving marker.
The goal is simple I clicked the mouse when the marker was inside the colored section. There are two colored sections in the circle,I pressed the botton when the marker moved inside the golden one.
- It took a few tries! Sometimes I clicked too early, sometimes too late. My hand-eye coordination isn’t the greatest, I admit.
- I noticed that the size of the section could change. Sometimes it was wide and easy, other times it was tiny and frustrating.
My First Success!
Finally, I managed to hit the marker in the sweet spot, And the lock will be opened! . It felt pretty good, even though it was just a game. I am very happy to unlock a box for the first time
I tried a few more locks after that, just to get the hang of it. I’m still not perfect, but I’m definitely getting better. Practice makes perfect, right?
So yeah, that’s how I learned to have Astarion pick locks. Not exactly rocket science, but it took me a bit to figure it out. Hopefully, this helps someone else who’s struggling with it!
