Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of talk online about Alex Pereira’s walking weight, especially since he moved up to light heavyweight. People were throwing around crazy numbers, and I got curious. So, I decided to do a little experiment on myself, trying to, you know, feel what it’s like to be that heavy, even just for a little bit.
The “Get Heavy” Phase
First things first, I needed to figure out my own baseline. I hopped on the scale – 185 pounds. Not exactly Pereira size, but hey, gotta start somewhere, right?

Now, the fun part – gaining weight! I didn’t want to go full-on bulk mode and ruin my own fitness, I am not a fighter, LOL. So I decided to simulate the extra weight.
- Day 1: Loaded up a backpack with books. Textbooks, novels, you name it. It felt awkward at first, shifting my balance and all.
- Day 2: Added some weights to the backpack. Those little ankle weights you use for workouts? Strapped those on too. I was starting to feel like a pack mule.
- Day 3: I found some old, heavy chains in the garage (don’t ask). Draped those over my shoulders. Definitely feeling the extra pounds now! My posture was suffering.
By the end of day three, I’d added about 30-40 pounds of extra “stuff” to my body. And man, it was a workout just walking around the house! I tried doing some basic chores, like taking out the trash and sweeping the floor, and everything felt so much harder. Simple things like going up the stairs? Forget about it, it’s a real challenge!
The “Move Like Pereira” Attempt
With all this added weight, I tried to move around, you know, just casually. No shadow boxing or anything, just normal, everyday movements. Here’s what I noticed:
- Everything felt slower. Duh, right? But it was more than just speed. My reaction time felt sluggish.
- Balance was tricky. The extra weight, especially when it shifted, made it harder to stay stable. I could see how this would be a huge factor in a fight.
- My lower back started to ache. I’m pretty sure my posture was terrible, but even trying to stand up straight was a strain.
The “Weigh-In” (Sort Of)
Obviously, I wasn’t actually gaining 40 pounds of muscle. But by loading myself down with all that extra weight, I got a tiny, tiny glimpse into what it might feel like to be as heavy as Alex Pereira. I could see that the body will be much more stronger.
After a few days of this, I was so ready to take all that extra weight off. I have a newfound respect for fighters who carry that much mass, especially when they’re cutting weight and then rehydrating. It’s a whole different level of physical challenge.
My takeaway? I am staying at my 185, thanks to this experiment, I realized how tough these professional fighters are!
