Man, I gotta tell you about this little project I’ve been messing around with – tracking down all the Cubs MVP winners. It sounds simple enough, right? But let me tell you, it turned into a bit of a rabbit hole, but a fun one!
So, I started out just wanting a list, you know? Figured I’d jot down the names, maybe the years they won. I kicked things off with a basic search. Nothing fancy. Typed in “Cubs MVP winners” and hit enter. Boom! A bunch of stuff popped up.
Found out the Cubs have had nine MVP awards. Nine! That’s a pretty good chunk, especially considering they had that crazy long World Series drought that Kris Bryant finally busted in 2016.
First off, I stumbled upon Ernie Banks. Turns out, the dude won the MVP twice! Then there’s Ryne Sandberg and Sammy Sosa. Icons, all of them. It was cool to see how these guys brought some serious glory to the North Side even when the team wasn’t winning it all.
I dug a little deeper, and found this one site that had a pretty comprehensive list. It listed out all the Cubs award winners, not just MVPs. Got sidetracked for a bit looking at all the other awards like League Leaders, and some other team awards, which was a nice little detour.
- 1911 – Frank Schulte
- 1929 – Rogers Hornsby
- 1930 – Hack Wilson
- 1935 – Gabby Hartnett
- 1945 – Phil Cavarretta
- 1952 – Hank Sauer
- 1958 – Ernie Banks
- 1959 – Ernie Banks
- 1984 – Ryne Sandberg
- 1998 – Sammy Sosa
- 2016 – Kris Bryant
But I kept digging. You know me, always gotta get the full picture. I learned a bit about some other MVPs, but that’s a story for another day.
Anyway, I ended up making a list of all the Cubs MVP winners. It’s not just a list of names, though. I added the years they won and even little notes about their seasons.
It was definitely a fun little project. Reminds you how much history there is with this team. And it’s always cool to learn something new, even if it’s just about baseball.
Oh, and here’s a fun tidbit I found: Gabby Hartnett snagged the MVP for the Cubs back in 1935. Pretty neat, huh?
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with the Cubs MVPs. Hope you enjoyed the ride!
