Today, I gonna talk about that Strands game, what a strands clue, yeah. That thing my grandson showed me. He say it good for old people brain, keep you sharp. I say, I sharp enough already! But I play anyway, keep him happy.
Find the words
So, this Strands, it like a word search, right? But got some tricks. You see all them letters, all mixed up. You gotta find words in there. Not just any words, mind you. They gotta be at least four letters long. I seen shorter words, but they don’t count. Waste of time, I tell ya.
You drag your finger ‘cross the letters, make a word. Then you tap-tap on that last letter, twice. Gotta be quick! Like catchin’ a chicken for supper, gotta be fast or it get away. And if you right, the word lights up. Like magic, I swear. Some folks say it’s a good way to expand your vocabulary, but let me tell you, I don’t need fancy words to say what I need to say.
Get that hints
Now, they got this thing called hints. If you stuck, like a pig in the mud, you can get a hint. But it ain’t free. You gotta find three words, real words, mind you, not just any old letters strung together. And they gotta be four letters or longer, like I said before.
- Find three words
- Words not in the theme
- Words at least four letters
- Then you get a hint
Then, they show you some letters from one of them special words, them theme words. But they all mixed up, like a bowl of chicken feed. You gotta unscramble ’em. Like puttin’ Humpty Dumpty back together again, that’s what my grandson says. He always got some funny saying.
Theme words, what is it?
That’s the main thing, the theme words. Every puzzle has ’em, some special words, all connected. Like a family, I guess. You find ’em all, you win. Like hittin’ the jackpot at bingo, but without the free coffee. I remember back in the day, me and my girlfriends used to play bingo every Thursday night. That was the life, let me tell you.
They give you a clue about them theme words. Like today, the clue was “Morning Morsel”. I thought, what kind of gibberish is that? But my grandson, he smart cookie, he say it mean breakfast. I could of told you that! Who need a fancy word like “morsel” when you can just say breakfast?
Morning Morsel, what we eat?
So, I look for breakfast words. I found “EGG”, “BACON”, all them good stuff. You know, that stick to your ribs kind of food. Not like that fancy stuff they got now, all them little bits and pieces. Give me a good plate of eggs and bacon any day. And maybe some toast, with that homemade jam my neighbor makes. Best jam you ever tasted, I tell ya. She uses that special pectin, makes it all thick and sweet. Can’t find that in the store, no sir.
- EGG
- BACON
- TOAST
- JAM, maybe, if you lucky
I also found some other words, like “COFFEE” and “TEA”. I guess some folks like that stuff in the morning. Me, I always been a coffee drinker. Strong and black, that how I like it. Keeps me goin’ all day. My husband, bless his soul, he used to like tea. With milk and sugar. I never did understand that. But to each his own, I always say. One time, he even tried to get me to try it, but I said, “Honey, if it ain’t coffee, it ain’t worth drinking.”
Don’t give up, keep playin’
This Strands game, it can be tricky, I tell ya. Sometimes you just stare and stare at them letters, and nothin’ come to ya. Like waitin’ for rain in a drought, just nothin’ happenin’. But you can’t give up. Gotta keep lookin’, keep tryin’. Like plantin’ seeds, gotta be patient, wait for ’em to grow. I seen some folks just give up when it get hard. I tell ’em, “Nothin’ good come easy.” Gotta work for it, like anything in life. I remember when I first learned to crochet, my fingers were all thumbs. But I kept at it, and now look at me! I could make a sweater in my sleep.
My grandson, he good at this game. He find them words quick, like a fox in a henhouse. He say it easy. I say, easy for you, you young whippersnapper! Your brain still work good. Mine got some cobwebs, I think. But I still play. Keeps me busy. And it fun, I guess. Most of the time, anyway. When I ain’t throwin’ my phone across the room, that is! It all in good fun, of course. My grandson always says, “Grandma, you’re a hoot!” I don’t know what that means, but I think it’s a good thing.
So that Strands, yeah. That what it is. Bunch of letters, gotta find words. Theme words, hints, all that. You play it yet? Maybe you should. Keep your brain workin’. Like me, gotta keep the old brain oiled up, you know? Otherwise, it get rusty. And nobody want a rusty brain, that for sure. Just keep draggin’ them fingers, and tappin’ them letters, and maybe you find somethin’. It a good way to kill some time, I reckon. And who knows, maybe you even learn a thing or two. Just don’t expect me to use any of them fancy words, though. I’m too old for that nonsense.
