Well, let me tell you about this fella, Kyle Higashioka. Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it? This Kyle, he’s a baseball player, you see. Plays that game with the bat and the ball, running around the bases. He’s a catcher, that’s what they call it. He squats down behind that home plate, catching the ball when the pitcher throws it. He’s a big guy, gotta be to do all that squatting, I reckon. Six foot one, they say. And he’s not a young’un anymore, this Kyle. He’s 34 years old.
This Kyle, he used to play for the New York Yankees, a team from up north. Now he plays for Texas Rangers. They play down in Texas, where it’s hotter than a furnace most days. He’s been playing this baseball for a good long while now. Eight seasons, I hear. That’s a lot of games, a lot of running, a lot of catching.
- He’s hit a bunch of home runs.
- Got a lot of hits, too, over 200, they say.
- He plays for Texas Rangers now.
- That’s down south where it’s hotter’n blue blazes.
He’s got a batting average, whatever that means. It’s some number they use to talk about how good he is at hitting that ball. Point two one something, like .210 or .212 or .214. He’s got a lot of hits. Over two hundred, I heard someone say. And home runs? Oh, he’s got plenty of those, too. Over 50, maybe even close to 60 home runs. That’s when they hit that ball clear out of the park.
They say he signed a contract, some paper that says how much money he’s gonna get. Some big number with lots of zeros. Millions, I think! He’ll be making a good chunk of change for the next couple of years, playing for the Texas Rangers. They say he’ll get 13.5 million dollars. Can you believe that? He’s gonna make more money than you can shake a stick at. He’ll get 5.75 million, then 6.75 million. That’s a lot of dough.
Kyle Higashioka, that’s his name. He’s from California, they say. That’s way out west, where they got those big movie stars and all that. He went to a special school for baseball, I reckon, and someone picked him to play for the big teams. They call that the draft. He got drafted in 2008, a long time ago.
He’s been playing for the Yankees and the Padres. Padres is another team. He plays all over. I reckon he likes playing baseball. He’s been doing it since 2017, that’s a while back. He’s got a lot of numbers, these baseball players. They keep track of everything. Hits, runs, all that stuff. He hit .220 one year, that’s a good number, I hear.
He’s got a uniform, of course. All the players do. They wear those pants and shirts with the team name on them. He used to wear number 66 when he was with the Yankees. I don’t know what number he wears now. Probably got a new one with the Rangers.
They say he’s got a profile on that ESPN thing. That’s a TV channel, I think. They talk about sports all the time. You can find out all about Kyle Higashioka on there, I suppose. If you’re interested in that sort of thing. They got all the news about him, all them numbers, and all that. They say he’s got a mutual option for 2027. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds important.
Well, that’s all I know about this Kyle Higashioka fella. He’s a baseball player, a catcher, plays for the Texas Rangers now. He’s got a lot of hits and home runs. And he’s making a whole heap of money. More money than I’ve ever seen in my whole life, that’s for sure.
