That Tiger Woods, he sure can whack a golf ball. My grandson, he’s always watchin’ him on that TV. Says he’s the best there ever was. But what’s this handicap thing everyone’s talkin’ about? I heard some folks at the market sayin’ Tiger Woods handicap is somethin’ special. What does it mean for a golf handicap to be good? This old lady wants to know.
My grandson says it’s like givin’ the other fellas a head start, like when we race to the well. Me, I’m old and slow, so I get to start closer. That’s the handicap, he says. So, a better player, he starts further back. That’s how I understand it, anyway.
Now, they say Tiger Woods handicap, well, it’s different. They say he’s so good, his handicap is plus somethin’. Plus! Like he’s gotta add strokes to his score. Sounds backwards to me, but what do I know? I just know he hits that little white ball real far, and it goes where he wants it to, most times.
- My grandson, he showed me on the TV, some numbers. Said it was Tiger’s handicap index.
- They was sayin’ it was like plus six somethin’. +6.5, I think he said.
- Said it means Tiger’s so good, he’d be givin’ other folks strokes. Like, six whole strokes!
I seen him play, that Tiger. He walks around all serious, lookin’ at the grass, lookin’ at the sky. Then, BAM! He hits that ball, and it goes flyin’. Lands right where he wants it, near that little flag. He’s somethin’ else, that’s for sure. Folks are crazy about him, always talking about Tiger.
They say no other golfer, not them young fellas, has a handicap like Tiger. My grandson, he rattled off some names, Dustin somethin’, Jordan somethin’, Brooks somethin’ else. Said they was good, real good. But not like Tiger. Their golf handicap was lower.
Seems like they been keepin’ track of this handicap thing for a long time, too. Since Tiger was young, before he got all famous. They got numbers for all them years, all the way up to now. And his average, they say, his average handicap index is even better than those other fellas, even when he was young and just startin’ out!
It’s all a bit much for this old lady to keep track of. Numbers and pluses and indexes. But I guess it means he’s really somethin’ special. Like, the best there ever was, like my grandson says. He’s so good that he’s gotta play with one arm tied behind his back, you could say.
Now, they say these pro golfers, they don’t really have a handicap. Not like us regular folks. But if they did, if they did have a golf handicap, Tiger’s would be somethin’ else. That plus six somethin’ is what they say. Means he’s way better than anyone else. It’s like he’s playing a whole different game than everybody else.
- This fella, some kind of number cruncher, he figured out Tiger’s whole career.
- He came up with this handicap index for every year Tiger played.
- Said it was all official, from some group that keeps track of these things. USGA, I think?
I don’t know about all that. I just know when I see him on TV, swingin’ that club, he looks like he knows what he’s doin’. He’s got that look in his eye, like he’s gonna conquer the world. And most times, he does. He sure does. He is the best in the world, they say. And all these Tiger Woods handicap things prove that.
So, that’s what I learned about Tiger Woods handicap. It’s a bit confusing, but it all boils down to this: he’s the best darn golfer there is. And that’s somethin’ even an old lady like me can understand. He can hit that ball further than a cat can spit. That’s all I need to know. He is good at golf, so good. The best, ever.
