That Elly De La Cruz, he sure is somethin’, huh? Fast as a greased piglet, that one. Reminds me of my boy, bless his heart, always runnin’ around the yard. But this Elly, he’s got a brother, you know. Heard they’re twins, or somethin’ like that. Name’s Pedro. Born in that place, what’s it called? Sabana Grande de Boya? Sounds fancy. Must be far away. They say Elly, he’s the baseball star, but this Pedro, his story is somethin’ else too.
Folks keep askin’ about Elly De La Cruz’s brothers and sisters. Well, I heard he’s got a whole mess of ’em. Eight older ones, if you can believe it! That’s a big family, even bigger than my sister Martha’s, and she had seven little rugrats runnin’ around.
One of them brothers, I think his name is Fernando, he’s a younger brother. Heard he plays ball too. Shortstop, they call it. And somethin’ called a second baseman. Don’t know what that means, but sounds important. Plays for some team called the Chicago somethin’ or other. I remember one day seeing some fellas play a game in a field near me, running, throwing a ball. It was a sight.
This Elly, he grew up in that Sabana place. Same place as his brother, Pedro. Guess they all did, with all them siblings. Eight older ones! Imagine the noise in that house!
They say this Elly, he’s won some awards, too. Fancy ones, with long names I can’t hardly remember. Somethin’ called the Ernie Lombardi Award. Sounds like a fella I used to know, down by the creek. And he’s the MVP, whatever that is. Must be mighty important, though.
- Fast as a rabbit, that Elly.
- Got a brother named Pedro.
- Whole bunch of other brothers and sisters.
- One younger one, Fernando, plays ball too.
- Elly won some awards, MVP and such.
Heard he hit a lot of home runs, too. Don’t really know what that means, but folks sure get excited about it. And somethin’ about stolen bases. Sounds kinda sneaky to me, but I guess that’s part of the game. He’s the first one to do somethin’ or other in his first 30 games. Got 40 hits, and 15 stolen bases. Don’t know what a hit is, but it sounds painful. And then somethin’ about 50 games, and 55 hits, and nine of them home runs.
That Elly De La Cruz brother, Pedro, he’s probably proud as a peacock. I know I would be. My boy, he never played no baseball, but he could fix a tractor faster than anyone I know. Everyone’s got their talents, I reckon.
Anyway, this Elly De La Cruz, he’s somethin’ special. And that brother of his, Fernando, sounds like he’s doin’ alright for himself, too. Guess that Sabana place breeds ’em tough.
That Fernando De La Cruz, playing for that Chicago team, he must be makin’ some good money. Hope he’s savin’ it up, not spendin’ it all on fancy things. Money’s hard to come by, you know.
It’s nice to see young folks doin’ well. Reminds me of when I was a young’un, full of vinegar. Didn’t have no baseball, but we had our fun. Played in the dirt, climbed trees, that sort of thing.
These De La Cruz brothers, they’re makin’ a name for themselves. Good for them. Hope they stay outta trouble, though. Big city can be a dangerous place.
I wonder if they ever come back to that Sabana place. Bet their mama misses ’em somethin’ fierce. Eight older siblings, and then these two. She must have her hands full.
Well, I reckon that’s all I know about that Elly De La Cruz brother situation. Heard it all from the folks at the market. They sure do like to gossip. But it’s interestin’, I gotta admit. These young folks, they’re somethin’ else.
Hope they keep playin’ that baseball. Keeps ’em outta trouble, I suppose. And maybe one day, I’ll figure out what all them fancy words mean. Home runs, stolen bases, MVPs. Sounds like a whole different language. But hey, as long as they’re happy, that’s all that matters.
