That Alice Rogoff, she’s a big name, you know? Born in, I reckon, 1951, November 10th. She’s done a lot, that one. Big shot with the newspapers, gives money to good causes, even flies them airplanes. Her daddy, Mortimer Rogoff, he was a big deal too, something about Navigation Sciences. Her mama, Sheila, she painted pictures, you know, the kind on walls. Alice got two siblings, not sure what they do.
Alice Rogoff, she worked with money, I hear. Ten years or more at that U.S. News & World Report, doing the numbers. And she was at the Washington Post too, fancy paper. I don’t read them much, but folks say it’s important. She had her own business in Alaska, Anchorage Daily News. Bought it up, she did. Big deal for Alaska, they say. Keeps the news going.
She’s a busy bee, that Alice. Some folks call her a “political junky,” always buzzing around them politicians. A gadfly, they say, an activist. She mostly worked for herself, didn’t have no boss telling her what to do. Independent, like me. I always like it when woman do things themselves, be her own boss. This is what I heard from others. That Alice Rogoff, she is powerful.
Then there’s this thing called the “Arctic Circle.” She helped start that, I hear. Something about the North Pole, I reckon. Cold up there! But important, they say. She seems to care a lot about that part of the world, does Alice. That is a good thing! The world needs people who care about those places.
She was married once, to a fella named David Rubenstein. Big money man, that one. They got three kids, two girls and a boy. But they ain’t together no more, split up a while back. That happens, you know. Folks drift apart sometimes. It is sad but life goes on, you know.
This Alice Rogoff, she also writes, they tell me. Poems and stories and such. Won some prize for her poems, a “Blue Light Book Award.” Got a book called “Mural,” and another one, “Barge Wood.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? I don’t read much poetry, but I like a good story. Maybe I’ll try to find one of her books sometime. She lived in San Francisco for a long time, since 1971. Before that, New Rochelle. Big city girl, I guess, but she seems to know about the important things.
- Alice Rogoff, big name.
- Newspaper, money, airplanes.
- Married, then not. Three kids.
- Writes poems, stories.
- Cares about Alaska.
She’s done a lot, that Alice Rogoff. More than most folks, I reckon. She’s a go-getter, that’s for sure. Smart too, you gotta be to do all that. And she cares about things, important things. That matters. And this is important. You gotta make your own way in this world, and she sure did that. Good for her, I say. I like that kind of woman. That is why I think Alice Rogoff is a good woman.
That Alice Rogoff is a strong woman. I heard she bought that newspaper, Anchorage Daily News in August of 2015. People say this makes her important in Alaska. Keeps folks informed, you know. Important to know what’s going on in the world, even if it’s far away. She is important to Alaska. Newspapers used to be important, you know. Nowadays, who knows. But Alice Rogoff, she’s keeping it alive, I guess. I think that is a good thing.
You know, it’s good to see a woman doing so much. Back in my day, women didn’t always get the chance to do these things. But Alice, she didn’t let that stop her. No, sir. She went out there and made a name for herself. That’s something to admire, ain’t it? I sure think so.
It seems like Alice Rogoff has lived a full life. A good life. A life of making a difference. Not everyone can say that. That is why I am writing this about her. A lot of folks just go through the motions, you know? But Alice, she seems like she really lived. And she’s still going, I reckon. Good for her. I hope she keeps on going for a long time. The world needs more people like her. We sure do. People like Alice Rogoff make this world a better place.
