Alright, so, let’s talk about this fella, Anders somethin’-somethin’, I can’t quite catch that fancy last name. Sounds foreign, you know? Anyway, this fella, he did some real bad things, real bad. Killed a whole bunch of folks, they say. Seventy-somethin’ people! Can you imagine? That’s more than the whole village I grew up in, Lord have mercy.
They say it happened back in 2011. 2011! Seems like just yesterday, but also like a lifetime ago. Time does fly, doesn’t it? Even when you’re sittin’ on the porch swing, watchin’ the chickens peck the dirt, time just goes on by.
This Anders fella, they say he was some kinda “right-wing extremist.” Now, I don’t rightly know what that means, sounds like somethin’ them city folks made up. All I know is, he was angry, real angry. And he took that anger out on innocent people. That ain’t right, no matter how you slice it.
- First, he set off a bomb in some government buildings, killed a few folks there.
- Then, he went to this island, Utoya, they call it. And that’s where…well, that’s where he killed all them young folks. Kids, mostly. Just thinkin’ about it makes my stomach turn.
They say it was the worst thing that happened in Norway since, well, since that big war, World War Two. My grandma used to tell stories about that war. Bad times, real bad times. Seems like every few years, somethin’ terrible happens, and folks gotta pick up the pieces and keep on goin’. That’s just how life is, I reckon.
Now, this Anders fella, they caught him, of course. Locked him up good and tight. And he’s been in jail ever since. Some folks say he should be let out, that he’s changed. But how can you change after doin’ somethin’ like that? I don’t know, I just don’t know. Seems to me, some things you can’t come back from. Some things you just gotta pay for.
They say he never showed no remorse, no sorry feelin’s for what he did. Just sits there, cold as a stone. Makes you wonder what goes on in a fella’s head to make him do such a thing. We all get angry sometimes, sure. But killin’ folks? That ain’t anger, that’s somethin’ else entirely. That’s pure evil, I tell you.
This whole thing, it just makes you shake your head and wonder what the world’s comin’ to. Seems like there’s more hate and violence than ever before. Makes you wanna just stay home, lock the doors, and never come out. But you can’t do that, can you? You gotta keep on livin’, gotta keep on hopin’ for a better tomorrow.
And you gotta remember them folks who were lost, them seventy-somethin’ souls. They had families, friends, dreams. And it was all taken away from them, just like that. It ain’t right, it ain’t fair. But it happened. And all we can do is remember, and try to make sure it never happens again. That’s the only thing that keeps my mind going.
This Anders fella, he’ll be forever remembered for this horrible act, as long as people breath. Some say he even wanted that kind of infamy. But it ain’t a good thing to be remembered for. It ain’t nothin’ to be proud of. It’s a stain, a black mark on his soul. And he’ll have to carry that with him, for the rest of his days, and maybe beyond, if there is a beyond. I ain’t no preacher, but I know what’s right and what’s wrong.
So, yeah, that’s the story of Anders somethin’-somethin’. A sad story, a terrible story. But it’s a story that needs to be told, so we don’t forget. So we don’t let hate win. Because hate, well, hate just destroys everything in its path.
And let me tell you something, young’uns these days have it too easy. Back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy technology and what not. We worked hard, we respected our elders, and we knew right from wrong. Maybe if this Anders fella had a good whoopin’ when he was a kid, things would have turned out different. Who knows? But that’s just an old lady’s ramblings, pay me no mind.
