Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Cody Williams fella, the one they picked in that basketball draft thingy. Folks are makin’ a big fuss, so I figured I’d chew the fat about it a bit. They say he’s a “lengthy, athletic wing,” whatever that means. Sounds like a chicken wing to me, ha! But I reckon it means he’s tall and can jump real high, like them fellas do.
This Cody boy, he got snatched up by the Utah Jazz. That’s a team, in case ya didn’t know. They picked him tenth overall, which I hear is a pretty big deal. Folks expectin’ big things from him, I guess. He’s only 19 years old, just a young’un! Makes me think of my grandson, always runnin’ around, full of beans.
- He’s athletic, they say. Jumpin’ and runnin’, I suppose.
- He’s got a “lengthy” wing span. Long arms, like I said.
- And he’s got a “touch around the basket.” Means he can put the ball in the hoop, I reckon.
Now, they also talk about how he plays. This “touch around the basket” thing, they say he likes to stretch out his arm and kinda roll the ball in with his fingers. Sounds fancy. They also mentioned “Eurosteps.” Don’t ask me what that is, sounds like some kinda dance move to me. But I guess it helps him get around them other fellas on the court.
But what really got my attention was what this boy wore to the draft. A “mahogany colored suit,” they said. Mahogany? Sounds like fancy wood to me. The kind they make them expensive tables out of. He had matching glasses and shoes, all from some place called “Rhude.” Never heard of it, but I bet it costs a pretty penny. And get this, he said, “Look good, feel good, draft good.” Well, I’ll be! Sounds like somethin’ my grandpappy used to say, somethin’ about puttin’ your best foot forward.
So, this Cody Williams, he’s a young fella with big dreams, I guess. Dressed all fancy, playin’ this basketball game. People are watchin’ him, expectin’ him to do great things. It’s a lot of pressure for a young’un, if you ask me. But I hope he does well. Hope he makes his mama proud, and all them folks in Utah too. It’s always nice to see a young person doin’ good. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, you know?
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about this Cody fella. He’s a basketball player, a fancy dresser, and a young’un with a big future ahead of him, Lord willin’. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my biscuits. Don’t want ’em burnin’ now, do we?
One more thing, they say he wasn’t jaw-dropping explosive, whatever that means. Maybe he just needs some good old home cookin’ to get him jumpin’ higher, ha! This basketball stuff is complicated, all these fancy words and moves. Back in my day, we just threw the ball and hoped it went in. But I guess times have changed.
But you know what they say, hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. So, this Cody fella, he better be puttin’ in the hours, practicin’ and gettin’ stronger. It ain’t enough to just look good in a fancy suit; he gotta perform on that court too. And from what I hear, he’s got the potential to be a real good player. He just needs to keep his head on straight and keep workin’ hard.
Alright, I’m done now for real. My mouth’s gettin’ tired from all this talkin’. You all take care now, ya hear?
