Well now, let me tell ya a bit about this feller, Sean Strickland. He’s a real tough cookie, born and raised out in Anaheim, California. Ain’t nobody in the UFC that don’t know his name by now, that’s for sure. Sean’s been climbing up the ranks, and as of January 2024, he’s sittin’ pretty at #1 in the UFC middleweight rankings. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, I tell ya. He’s also holdin’ down the #14 spot in the pound-for-pound rankings. A mighty fine accomplishment for a man who don’t mind gettin’ in there and throwin’ fists.
Now, as for his record, let’s just say this fella has been doin’ more winnin’ than losin’. He’s got 29 wins to his name and only 6 losses. That’s a pretty good track record in the world of MMA, where every fight is a tough one. And don’t forget, out of those 29 wins, 11 of ’em came from knockouts and 4 from submissions. That tells ya he’s not just good at standin’ and punchin’, but he knows how to get the job done in other ways, too.
Strickland’s last big win was against Israel Adesanya. Now, that fight at UFC 293 in September 2023, I gotta say, it shocked the world. He beat Adesanya with a unanimous decision, which was somethin’ no one saw comin’. I reckon it made a lotta people sit up straight and pay attention to ol’ Sean. Adesanya’s a tough one, but Strickland made him look ordinary that night.
But it ain’t always been easy for Sean. He’s had his fair share of tough losses. One of ’em came against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297, where he lost by a split decision. Now, a split decision loss don’t mean he was outclassed, but it sure means he’s gotta work a little harder the next time. That’s the way it is in this fightin’ game—sometimes ya win, sometimes ya gotta lick your wounds and get back to it.
Even with them losses, Strickland’s been a consistent fighter, always showin’ up and doin’ his best. He don’t back down from a challenge, and that’s what makes him stand out. Whether he’s fightin’ a top contender or just tryin’ to get another win under his belt, Sean’s got the heart of a lion. He’s one of them fighters who’ll keep at it, no matter how tough it gets. Ain’t no quit in him.
Now, I reckon I should mention a couple other fights of his just to give y’all a real good picture of what Sean Strickland is made of. He had a TKO win against Abusupiyan Magomedov at UFC on ESPN 48, where he stopped his opponent with some heavy punches. That’s the kinda fightin’ that gets ya noticed. And I wouldn’t be tellin’ the whole story if I didn’t mention his win over Paulo Costa at UFC 302, where he went the full distance and won by decision. Ain’t no shame in winnin’ by decision, it’s still a win!
All in all, this Sean Strickland is a fighter you gotta keep an eye on. He’s been through the wringer, but he always comes back stronger. With a record like his, he’s sure to be around for a long while, makin’ a name for himself in the UFC. Whether he’s knockin’ people out or workin’ his way through decisions, one thing’s for sure—he’s here to stay.
