Okay, so I wanted to change my ship’s name in Sea of Thieves the other day. The old one just wasn’t doing it for me anymore, you know? Felt a bit silly after all this time sailing.
Starting the Process
First thing, I fired up the game. Got to the main menu, the one with your pirate standing there. I looked around for ship options. It wasn’t immediately obvious, gotta say.

I eventually found the section called ‘My Ships’. Makes sense, right? Clicked into that.
Finding the Renaming Option (and the catch)
There were my trusty vessels. I picked the one I wanted to rename. Looked through the options for it… customize, set sail, stuff like that. I saw the current name, but clicking on it did nothing. Hmm.
Then I spotted it, kind of greyed out or maybe just different – an option related to renaming. When I selected that, the game told me I needed something specific. A Ship Renaming Deed. Ah, there’s always something, isn’t there?
Turns out, you don’t just change it whenever you want. You gotta buy this Deed thing first.
Getting the Deed
So, where do you get fancy stuff like that? The Pirate Emporium, of course. Had to back out of the ‘My Ships’ menu and find the Emporium tab.
Once in the Emporium, I had a look around. It’s packed with stuff. Pets, costumes, ship cosmetics… Took me a minute, but I eventually found the ‘Ship Renaming Deed’ listed, usually under the ‘Pirate’ or ‘Utility’ section, something like that. It cost some Ancient Coins. Had some saved up, luckily, from playing the game, so I went ahead and bought one.

- Navigated to Pirate Emporium.
- Searched for the ‘Ship Renaming Deed’.
- Purchased it using Ancient Coins.
Actually Changing the Name
Alright, Deed acquired! Now, back to the ‘My Ships’ menu I went. Selected my ship again.
This time, when I went to the rename option, it worked! It popped up a box asking for the new name. Had to type it in carefully. Think there’s a character limit, but my new name wasn’t super long anyway. Also, gotta keep it clean, obviously – they have filters.
I typed in the glorious new name I’d thought up. Double-checked the spelling. Hit confirm.
All Done
And that was pretty much it. The game confirmed the change. The name updated right there in the ‘My Ships’ menu. Felt good.
Later, when I sailed, I made sure to check the ship’s crest. Yep, new name was showing proudly. Job done. Wasn’t too complicated once I figured out I needed that Deed thing from the Emporium.
