Okay, so I finally decided to level up my Raiden Shogun in Genshin Impact. I’ve been putting it off, but she’s just too cool not to max out. First things first, I needed to figure out what the heck I needed.
I started by checking the in-game character screen. You know, the one where you can level up, ascend, and all that good stuff. It conveniently lists all the materials required, but it doesn’t tell you where to find them!

So, my next move was, of course, hitting up the internet. I found a bunch of guides, and it became a lot clearer.
Gathering the Storm Beads
The big one was the Storm Beads. You need a ton of these, and they only drop from the Thunder Manifestation. You know the one, that annoying electric bird thing on Seirai Island. Thankfully, I had unlocked it from a prior quest. I ended up spending a good afternoon just teleporting back to the island, beating up the Thunder Manifestation, and then waiting for it to respawn. It gets tedious, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do for Waifu.
Hunting Down Handguards
Next up, Handguards! Old, Kageuchi, and Famed, depending on the ascension level. These are dropped by those Nobushi and Kairagi samurai dudes scattered all over Inazuma. I pulled up an interactive map online, marked all their locations, and started my hunt. Honestly, this was kind of fun, it’s a nice change of pace compared to running the same boss over and over.
- Old Handguard: The basic level, need a lot of these for the earlier ascensions.
- Kageuchi Handguard: A bit rarer, the Nobushi and Kairagi need to be a higher level.
- Famed Handguard: The rarest, gotta beat up the stronger enemies.
I did find some areas were more fruitful like, going from waypoint to waypoint. Made the grind a bit less painful.
Farming for Amakumo Fruit
Amakumo Fruit, these little blue plants are only found on Seirai Island. Again I used an interactive map to plot out the best farming route. It wasn’t too bad, they’re pretty plentiful if you know where to look. And, no fighting required, just running around and picking them.
Don’t Forget the Mora and EXP Books!
Finally, let’s not forget the basics: Mora and Hero’s Wit (EXP books). You need a ton of both. I had a decent stash saved up, but I still had to do a few Ley Line Outcrops (those gold and blue flower things) to top things off. Remember those Ley Lines? Yea, that’s a resource grind too.

After all that running around, fighting, and collecting, I finally had everything I needed! I went back to the character screen, hit that “Ascend” button, and watched my Raiden Shogun get even more powerful. Totally worth it. Now, time to test her out!
