Okay, so I’ve been grinding Apex Legends ranked pretty hard lately, and with the talk of quads possibly coming, I figured I’d jump in and see what the fuss was all about with a full squad. Normally, I just roll with one buddy or even solo queue, but man, having four people felt…different. Let me walk you through it.
Getting the Squad Together
First off, finding three other people who were both available AND wanted to play ranked was a bit of a mission. I hit up my usual duo partner, then we scrambled to find two more. Discord was our best friend here, pinging some folks we’ve played with before and even reaching out to some randoms in a couple of Apex communities.

The Early Games – A Mess
First few matches? Chaos. Absolute chaos. It felt like herding cats. Everyone had their own ideas about where to drop, what rotations to take, who to push…you name it. We had one guy who kept running off on his own, another who wouldn’t shut up about needing a specific weapon, and me and my buddy just trying to keep everyone somewhat coordinated. We got wiped out pretty early a bunch of times, mostly because we were all over the place.
Finding Our Groove
After, like, the fifth messy game, we actually sat down and talked it out. We established some basic roles. One person (not the lone wolf, thankfully) would be the designated IGL (in-game leader). My usual duo partner and I would try to stick together and focus on flanking/supporting, and the fourth guy, surprisingly, turned out to be a pretty solid anchor, holding down positions and providing cover fire.
- IGL: Made the main calls, decided on drops, and generally tried to keep us on the same page.
- Fraggers: Me and my buddy, pushing, flanking, doing the dirty work.
- Anchor: Holding angles, providing cover, and generally being a rock.
Actually Winning
Once we had a basic structure, things started to click. We were communicating better, using pings effectively (when the voice chat got too hectic), and actually playing as a team. I can’t stress how big of a difference it made. We started getting consistent top 5 placements, and even snagged a couple of wins. It’s a whole different ballgame when you have four people who are actually working together.
We have the IGL main calls,My duo friends and I for pushing and the other player is a solid support.
My Takeaway
Quads in ranked? It’s intense. It’s chaotic. But, if you can get a squad that’s willing to communicate and actually play as a unit, it’s incredibly rewarding. It definitely takes some getting used to, especially if you’re used to playing with smaller teams or solo, but the potential for some serious teamwork and high-level plays is there. It felt really great.I can’t wait to jump back to Apex Legend with my squad.
