Okay, so I was messing around in CS2 the other day, and I finally figured out how this whole 2OT (double overtime) thing works. It’s kinda confusing at first, but once you see it in action, it makes sense.
My Experiment Setup
First, I jumped into a game with some bots. I just wanted a controlled environment, you know? I set the regular match length to something short, just to speed things up. I made sure overtime was enabled, of course – that was the whole point!

Getting to Overtime
Once the regular rounds were done, and the score was tied, we went into overtime. Classic stuff, MR3, 10k start money, all that. The first overtime ended in a tie. No surprises there. Then, suddenly, the game announcer is all like “Double Overtime!”.
Double Overtime: What I Observed
Here’s where it gets interesting:
- The format stays the same: It’s still MR3 (first to win 4 rounds) and you start with 10k money.
- We just keep playing: It’s literally just another set of overtime rounds.
- It goes on (maybe) forever: It seems double overtime is not the end. After double overtime finished with the tie again. The game announcer is all like “Triple Overtime!” and then “Quadruple Overtime!” …
The Big “Aha!” Moment
So, basically, 2OT in CS2 isn’t some special, different kind of overtime. It’s just… more overtime. If the first overtime ends in a tie, you play another one. If that one ends in a tie, you play another one. And so on. I guess, you just keep going until someone finally wins an overtime set. I still don’t know the limit. I’m gonna find out!
