So, I finally dove into Armored Core 6, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I’ve always been a huge Gundam fan, so my goal was clear: build a mech that would make Amuro Ray proud. I’m going to breakdown my journey, mistakes and all, hopefully it is useful to other pilots.
Starting From Scratch
First things first, I spent hours just tinkering with the parts. There’s so much to choose from! I initially went for a heavy, tanky build, thinking I could just bulldoze my way through missions. Big mistake. I got my butt handed to me repeatedly. I learned the fast that Mobility is king in this game.

The First Draft: “Gundam-ish”
After many rebuilds, I started leaning towards a more balanced build. Here is the parts I found for the intial “Gundam-ish” build
- Head:I went for a head that was just looked closest to a Gundam.
- Core:I got a core with a high generator output.
- Arms: I picked arms with a decent melee specialization.
- Legs: Bipedal, of course! Nothing fancy.
For weapons, I slapped on a basic rifle, a laser blade (because every Gundam needs a beam saber!), and some missiles for good measure. The color scheme was the classic red, white, and blue. It looked… okay. Definitely not screen-accurate, but it felt like a step in the right direction.
Iterating and Improving
I played through a bunch of missions, taking notes on what worked and what didn’t. The rifle was fine, but I felt like I needed more firepower. The laser blade was awesome, but I wasn’t very good at using it effectively. And the missiles? Well, they were missiles.
I swapped out the rifle for a bazooka. More punch, but slower reload. I practiced with the laser blade, trying to get better at dodging and closing the distance. And I kept the missiles, because, again, missiles.
Fine-Tuning and Aesthetics
After a few more hours of gameplay, I had a pretty solid build. It wasn’t perfect, but it was effective. Now it was time to focus on the looks. I tweaked the colors, making them a bit more vibrant. I added some decals, trying to mimic the markings on a Gundam. I even experimented with different paint textures, going for a slightly weathered look.
The (Almost) Final Product
My Armored Core 6 “Gundam” is still a work in progress. There’s always room for improvement. But I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out. It’s not just a decent fighting machine; it actually looks like a Gundam (at least to me!). It is something I am proud of.

My biggest takeaway from this whole process? Don’t be afraid to experiment! Try different parts, different weapons, different color schemes. You might stumble upon something truly amazing. And don’t get discouraged if your first few attempts are a disaster. It’s all part of the fun.
