OK, so today I messed around with “Super Mario RPG” for the SNES, specifically trying to get Link from “The Legend of Zelda” to show up. You know, that little cameo appearance. It’s a pretty cool easter egg, and I figured, why not give it a shot? So here’s what went down.
First off, I fired up the game. You gotta get through a decent chunk of the story first. Basically, I just played normally, you know, battling Goombas, leveling up, the usual. Made sure to save often, because you never know when something might go wrong.
I rushed straight ahead until I got to the Mushroom Kingdom, plowed through it and kept going until I reached a place called Rose Town. That’s where the magic happens. There’s this inn there, and that’s where you need to be.
Once I was in Rose Town, I headed to the inn. Inside, I talked to the innkeeper, you know, to rest and heal up my party. Standard stuff. Then, instead of just resting like usual, I selected to stay in the fancy suite. It’s the more expensive option, but it’s key to making this work.
- Go to Rose Town.
- Enter the inn.
- Talk to the innkeeper.
- Choose to stay in the fancy suite.
After paying up, I made Mario go to sleep. Now, here’s where it gets interesting. After waking up, and trying to leave the room, you will see a Toad come to the room and complain about the noise.
Go back to sleep, and once waking up again and leaving the room this time, you’ll see a familiar green figure snoozing away in the other bed. Yep, it’s Link! He’s just chilling there, taking a nap. And if you interact with him, you’ll hear that classic Zelda secret sound. It’s a neat little detail.
My Notes
Honestly, the whole process was pretty straightforward. The hardest part was just getting to Rose Town, which just meant playing the game as usual. Once you’re there, it’s just a matter of staying at the inn and picking the right room. It’s a fun little easter egg and totally worth it if you’re a fan of both Mario and Zelda. If you are a fan of them, you must try this!
