Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my settings in Overwatch 2 again, trying to get my aim just right. Today, I decided to focus on Mauga because, let’s be real, his guns are insane, and I wanna make the most of them. Here is what happened.
First, I jumped into a custom game, you know, one of those aim trainer maps where the bots are just zooming around. It’s perfect for this kind of tweaking. I spent a good hour just shooting, trying to get a feel for Mauga’s chainguns. At first, I was using the default crosshair, but it felt off. Like, I was spraying and praying, but not really hitting anything consistently.
I remembered reading some stuff online about how some settings in OW2 are kinda messed up by default. So, I dove into the options menu. I started playing around with the crosshair settings. I tried a bunch of different styles: the circle, the crosshairs, the dot, the whole nine yards. Changed the color a few times too, just to see what stood out best against the maps.
- The Dot: Initially, I thought the dot would be the way to go. It’s simple, it’s precise, it’s what I use for other heroes, Widowmaker especially. But with Mauga, it just didn’t feel right. His guns have so much spread that the dot felt misleading. I was aiming at a target, but the bullets were going everywhere else.
- The Circle: This was a little better. The circle kinda showed the general area where my bullets would land, which is more accurate to how Mauga’s guns work. But it still felt a bit too loose. I wanted something that gave me a better sense of control.
- The Crosshairs: Finally, I settled on the crosshairs. But not just any crosshairs. I turned on the option to show accuracy, so the crosshairs actually expand and contract based on how accurate my shots are. This was the game-changer for me.
With this setting, I could actually see how wild those chainguns get when you’re firing non-stop. The crosshairs would bloom out like crazy, showing me that my shots were basically going all over the place. But when I switched to burst fire, tap, tap, tap, the crosshairs stayed tight, and my aim improved dramatically.
I also messed around with my mouse sensitivity. I use 800 DPI, and I had my in-game sense at 4, some pro players say it is good for precision aim. But I was playing on a pretty big mouse pad, so I bumped it up to 5. This let me track targets a little smoother without having to drag my mouse across the entire pad.
More practice needed
After another hour or so of practice, I started to get the hang of it. I was landing more shots, controlling the recoil better, and actually feeling like I was making a difference in the game. I still need more practice, but I’m definitely on the right track.
So, yeah, that’s my Mauga crosshair adventure for today. It’s all about finding what works for you, but I think the crosshairs with accuracy turned on are a great starting point for anyone trying to improve their aim with this beast of a hero.
